Ottumwa Community School District is seeking a dynamic secondary instrumental music teacher with rich experiences and a passion for orchestra. This teacher will both instruct and provide support/lessons for both beginning and intermediate orchestra musicians.

POSITION TITLE: Instrumental Orchestra Instructor

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have one or both of these endorsements: K-8 Music – 144, 5-12 Music - 145
  2. Experience working with and leading both traditional instrumental band and instrumental orchestra is preferred.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops and implements appropriate programming and lessons associated with Instrumental Orchestra Music to be delivered in a classroom setting for junior high aged music students.
  2. Supports and implements the district curriculum, standards and benchmarks.
  3. Assists music department staff with strategies to support and meet students’ needs and achievement of academic and performance goals.
  4. Provides frequent communication and develops positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents and community members.
  5. Assists in planning and delivery of social/emotional/behavioral school-wide programming.
  6. Assists and collaborates with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents and students on matters pertaining to Instrumental Music.
  7. Maintains appropriate records and protects the confidentiality of data and information.
  8. Meets the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria on an annual basis.
  9. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
