CLASS TITLE:
Preschool Associate Teacher

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of a program administrator, assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of a
comprehensive child development program for preschool aged children; provide support to students and
parents.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive child development program for preschool aged
children; assist in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for students; lead small groups of
special needs students in classroom activities.
Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of individual student programs; assist in observing
and recording student development and progress.
Assist students with developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; serve as a positive
role model for students.
Provide support to students and parents; learn individual interest of children and receive input from parents.
Supervise and participate in playground activities.
Operate instructional equipment and machines as assigned.
Perform a variety of clerical tasks in support of the program; prepare attendance reports, lunch counts and other
records as assigned; maintain student files.
Assist in setting up, monitoring and cleaning program facilities.
Assist with communicating student and parent needs to appropriate support service personnel in school and the
community; assist students, teachers and/or parents with communication problems resulting from a limited
knowledge of English as assigned.
Attend a variety of meetings as assigned including in-service training sessions.
Conduct home visits with families as required.
Perform related duties as assigned.

preschool aged children.

Prepare and maintain records and reports.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school required. Enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor degree program preferred. One
year experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification
California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher level Permit required.
Some positions in this class may be required to possess bilingual skills in a designated second language.
Valid California driver's license.
Be insurable and maintain insurability.
May be required to provide own transportation.
