STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE: Accounts Payable Technician

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor, perform complex accounting, involving the application of
budgeting fundamentals, finance, and fiscal reporting; provide work direction and guidance to others.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Prepare accounts payable invoices and claims for reimbursement for payment.
Recommend accounting or budget revisions as necessary; audit invoices and payments for appropriateness of
expense and proper allocation to accounts.
Prepare a variety of fiscal reports for federal, State and local projects.
Prepare journal entries for assigned accounts to transfer or record funds; reconcile accounts.
Communicate with program and other managers regarding fiscal issues and projections.
Perform special projects regarding assigned accounts and programs regarding fiscal projections and analyses;
prepare special accounting spreadsheets.
Participate in the monitoring of County Office accounts regarding reporting and closing of books.
Provide work direction and guidance to others; provide assistance for other Accounts Payable Technicians or to
cover absences.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Methods, procedures and terminology used in accounting work, including accounts receivable and payable.
Procedures to generate checks and invoices.
Financial and statistical record-keeping techniques.
Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned accounting activities.

ABILITY TO:
Perform a variety of accounting duties related to accounts payable and reconciling various accounts.
Receipt, post and reconcile financial transactions.

Prepare and process financial, statistical and accounting and purchasing documents, records and materials.
Verify, post, balance and adjust accounts.
Plan work and meet schedules and timelines.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
Learn and apply policies, procedures, rules, regulations and State Education codes involved in assigned
activities.
Audit and review the work of others.
Train and provide work direction to others.
Work confidentially with discretion.
Answer telephones and greet the public courteously.
Perform clerical duties such as filing, typing, duplicating and maintaining routine records.
Operate computer equipment and applicable software.
Operate a ten-key adding machine by touch.
Type at an acceptable rate of speed.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and four years clerical accounting experience
maintaining computerized financial and statistical records. College-level course work in accounting or
bookkeeping is desirable.
