Leadership Public Schools is seeking applicants interested in teaching Ethnic Studies at the LPS Oakland R&D Campus for the upcoming

 2018-2019 school year.

 

Leadership Public Schools is a network of three urban charter high schools dedicated to providing exemplary education in underserved communities in the Bay Area and to developing replicable practices that can address critical issues in the wider education field. LPS has developed a national reputation for accelerating the achievement of students entering high school below grade level and or creatively leveraging technology to empower teachers and students. Students take Ethnic Studies in the 9th grade at LPS Oakland as the first course in our Entrepreneurial Leadership Pathway. This teacher has a site-based coach, as well as receives additional content coaching from an experienced Ethnic Studies teacher from OUSD.

Responsibilities will include:

  • teaching five sections, with specific courses assigned by your principal
  • planning and delivering rigorous and differentiated lessons incorporating LPS Effective Teaching Rubric standards
  • providing an environment of effective classroom management and student efficacy
  • using student data to inform your teaching practice
  • demonstrating improving student performance results
  • continuing development as a teacher through your goal setting, observation, coaching and evaluation processes
  • participating in LPS network instructional and curriculum initiatives
  • attending scheduled IEP meetings and addressing student needs
  • teaching a Leadership Advisory section and facilitating the Leadership program
  • modeling the Leadership Way
  • participating in professional development and collaborations weekly and up to thirteen professional development days
  • participating in parent conferences, parent association meetings, and at least one school committee
  • fulfilling other duties or other assignments as needed in order to best serve our students
  • 9th-grade Advisors are required to attend a three day Student Leadership Retreat in August and will be paid an additional stipend of up to $600 for the retreat (room and board are covered by LPS).

Essential Qualifications:

  • Two-three years of teaching and high student achievement in an urban classroom
  • Strong willingness to collaborate with teachers as a team
  • Academic expertise and enthusiasm for subject area
  • Experience using assessment data to refine curricula and inform instruction
  • Skill in leveraging educational technology
  • Skill in providing access to rigorous college preparatory curricula
  • A passion for teaching that provides vital energy to improve the minds and lives of students
  • A personalized, culturally responsive classroom that supports and engages students in their learning
  • Evidence of professional reflection and collaborative work
  • An appropriate CA Teaching Credential with EL authorization
  • An ability to work under pressure and adapt easily
  • A willingness to contribute to student activities, instructional office hours, and school committees

Position:

This is a full-time position of 190 days including 8 days of professional development. There are seven optional additional instructional collaboration/ professional development days and many opportunities for stipended curriculum work and teacher leadership.
