KIPP, or the Knowledge is Power Program, is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools in educationally underserved communities. Nearly 100,000 students attend one of the 224 KIPP schools that operate in 20 states and the District of Columbia. KIPP Philadelphia Schools Public Schools (KPPS) is a part of the national KIPP network and currently has six schools, serving approximately 1,600 students in North and West Philadelphia.

The Opportunity
The Special Education Teacher at KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools is required to perform the following duties:

  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of special education programs and other student supports (Intervention, 504, ELL, etc.)
  • Maintain IEPs, 504s, Evaluations, and ELL programs and ensure service delivery is delivered with fidelity.
  • Lead Child Find efforts and drive intervention and evaluation processes.
  • Liaison with parents via trainings, meetings, and consultations.
  • Provide case management for Special Education caseload and provide instruction to Special Education students.
  • Exhibit positive rapport with students, parents and staff
  • Act as a role model for students
  • Create and foster a positive, safe learning environment that incorporates the school's core values, high expectations and code of conduct
  • Demonstrate strong pedagogy and effective classroom management
  • Implement the school-wide student management policies within classrooms and throughout school
  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents
  • Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities
  • Attend all staff meetings and other professional development sessions
  • Be available for report card nights and other events involving parents
  • Serve on school committees as needed
  • Remain on call in the evenings (via cell phone) to provide student support
  • Other duties as assigned by the school leader
  • Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the school leader

QUALIFICATIONS
KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools requires the following qualifications for all lead special education teachers:
  • Demonstrated success teaching students in under-served communities
  • Demonstrated success working within the field of Special Education
  • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, data-driven, and mission-driven school culture
  • Exhibit the school’s core values of determination, teamwork, integrity, excellence and joy
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
  • Extreme flexibility to accommodate multiple priorities and a strong work ethic to accommodate high level of responsibilities
  • At least 2 years of special education teaching experience required
  • Proven track-record of high student achievement primarily with educationally underserved students
  • Detail oriented, strong communication and organization skills in addition to extreme flexibility to accommodate multiple priorities
  • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS and CLEARANCES:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Highly qualified status as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education by passing Praxis in subject area interested to teach or holding a college degree in subject area interested to teach
  • All required criminal and child abuse background checks
    • PA State Police Clearance
    • PA Child Abuse Clearance
    • Cogent Federal Fingerprinting
    • ACT 168
PREFERRED EDUCATION and CREDENTIALS:
  • Pennsylvania State Certification Level I or Level II
  • Master's in Education/Teaching or content area
  • If not certified, transcripts will be required for your initial emergency permit application
Compensation
Salary will be based on KIPP Philadelphia Teacher Compensation System with a comprehensive benefits package.

Signing Bonuses
  • All new hires who sign on to teach in the following positions between now and 3/31 will receive a 3K signing bonus.
    • Special Education K-12
    • Math 5-12
    • Science 5-12
    • ELA 5-12
