The Park School is a Pre-K to Grade VIII independent school in Brookline, MA dedicated to excellence in education. The Head of the Math Department is a member of the school’s Upper Division (Grades VI - VIII) math department and reports to the Head of the Upper Division. This full-time, 10-month position is responsible for working with faculty and staff, teaching math, and inspiring both students and colleagues with a pedagogical approach that fosters a deep understanding of the principles of math that are in support of the school’s mission and curricular goals. The ideal candidate will bring a history of effective team collaboration and demonstrated creativity and innovation in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The ideal candidate will also have at least 5 years of teaching experience and draw upon that understanding to inspire members of the Park community. At the Park School, faculty engage respectfully with families and demonstrate sensitivity to cultures, values, configurations, and beliefs.



Roles & Responsibilities


In Leadership

  • Represent and infuse school values in departmental work: culturally-responsive, student-centered, innovative, and research-based pedagogy practices

  • Lead yearly goal and priority setting for the department

  • Partner with Division Heads and Assistant Head of School for Academics & Program to advance and implement department-generated goals

  • Partner with the Division Head to oversee the professional growth of department members

  • Participate in the supervision and evaluation of department members, observing and providing feedback, as well as collaborating with the Division Head who is responsible for faculty evaluation

  • Plan and facilitate regular department meetings that are logistical, reflective and student-centered

  • Foster a healthy work environment through effective collaboration and intentional reflection

  • Define skills alignment within given discipline, in coordination with Division Heads, Assistant Head of School for Academics & Program, and curriculum leaders in all three divisions

  • Collaborate with the Director of Equity and Inclusion to keep multiculturalism and diversity as a priority of curricular work and curriculum development

  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Support to ensure inclusive teaching practices


In Teaching

  • Design, plan, implement skills-based lessons for students using a variety of instructional strategies

  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of sincerity, generosity, honesty, and genuine respect for the thoughts, efforts, and feelings of others

  • Engage students fully in their growth and learning

  • Meet students at their developmental level

  • Guide students in maintaining standards of classroom behavior

  • Differentiate instruction to ensure the growth and development of all students

  • Maintain records of individual student progress and achievement

  • Teach 2 sections (.5 of the 1.0 FTE) of middle school math

  • Serve as an Advisor in the Upper Division

  • Perform other duties as needed or requested by the Division Head



  • Master’s degree in Mathematics and/or Education is preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of middle school classroom teaching

  • Fluency with the Google Apps for Education suite
