JOB TITLE: Part-Time College Placement Support Advisor
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager of College Placement, KIPP Through College

About KIPP Baltimore:
KIPP Baltimore is a non-profit organization that operates two public charter schools in Baltimore City - KIPP Ujima Village Academy and KIPP Harmony Academy. KIPP Through College (KTC) is KIPP Baltimore’s high school placement and alumni support program, which guides students to gain admission to college-preparatory high schools and helps them succeed and stay on the path to and through college graduation. There are currently over 1000 KIPP Baltimore alumni who receive support from the KTC program.

Position Overview:
As a member of the KIPP Through College team, the Placement Support Advisor will be responsible for supporting the college placement team through the 2019-2020 placement season, primarily by running evening application office hours. The position will be part-time beginning July 1, 2019. Tentative schedule will be:

  • July 1-August 30 3 days per week from 10am to 3pm
  • September 3-June 30 3 days per week from 2pm to 7pm

Position Responsibilities:
  • Hold evening office hours to support application completion.
  • Ensure 12th graders are attending evening office hours by consistently outreaching to students and families using various communication tools.
  • Through evening office hours and other means, support 12th graders and their families with completing the college application process including but not limited to essay writing, application completion, scholarship application completion, FAFSA completion, etc…
  • Complete data entry
  • Work with the KTC team and perform the following general responsibilities which include
  • Supporting a college going culture wherein every child is treated as college bound.
  • Meeting regularly with the Senior Manager of College Placement.
  • Developing positive, appropriate relationships with students, alumni, and staff.
  • Supporting the organization and execution of parent and student events.
  • Providing any other necessary support to the KTC team as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Interest in working in college access preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong ability to build relationships
  • Ability to research and effectively communicate information in various forms
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Excellent organization skills including a comprehensive organizational system
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Compensation and Benefits:
$19/hour for a total of 15 hours per week.
