Job Summary (2-3 sentences describing job purpose): Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations. This position teaches high school grades.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: List, in the order of importance or time spent, the essential duties/tasks performed by the position. Job Duty/Resp. 1: Plans daily lessons to meet the needs of all students and assists students needing additional support. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
Job Duty/Resp. 2: Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and homework assignments. Communicates those objectives to students.
Job Duty/Resp. 3: Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order in their classroom.
Job Duty/Resp. 4: Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
Job Duty/Resp. 5: Designs and implements assessments that measure progress towards academic standards and identifies gaps in learning. Uses assessment data to refine curriculum and adjust instructional practices.
Job Duty/Resp. 6: Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities and homework assignments. Creates a positive achievement-oriented learning environment.
Job Duty/Resp. 7: Participates in collaborative curriculum development and grade-level and/or school activities.

Education and Experience Requirements
Education (training/degree): Required minimum: Master’s degree
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: University Instructors will be granted a License Pursuant to § 49-5-112 to teach grades 9 – 12.
Experience: Pursuant to § 49-5-112(A) Have been a full-time college professor or instructor for at least two (2) of the last five (5) years at an eligible postsecondary institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting association, as defined by § 49-4-902; or(B) Have been a part-time college professor or instructor, teaching at least one (1) course per semester, for at least three (3) of the last five (5) years at an eligible postsecondary institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting association, as defined by § 49-4-902;
Skills Required: Pursuant to § 49-5-112 - Licensure to teach in grades nine through twelve for person who has taught at eligible postsecondary institution. Universal Citation: TN Code § 49-5-112 (2014) (a) notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the department shall issue a license to teach in grades nine through twelve (9-12) to any person who has taught at an eligible postsecondary institution as defined in § 49-4-902 and who meets the qualifications listed in this section. The license shall bear an endorsement to teach only in the subject area in which the person taught at the eligible postsecondary institution.(b) Any applicant seeking teacher licensure pursuant to this section shall:(1) (A) Have been a full-time college professor or instructor for at least two (2) of the last five (5) years at an eligible postsecondary institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting association, as defined by § 49-4-902; or(B) Have been a part-time college professor or instructor, teaching at least one (1) course per semester, for at least three (3) of the last five (5) years at an eligible postsecondary institution that is accredited by a regional accrediting association, as defined by § 49-4-902;(2) Submit for review by the department or a partnering institution of higher education at least three (3) years of documented teaching evaluations that rate the applicant for licensure as proficient or better in the subject area in which the applicant is seeking licensure. The teaching evaluations required by this subdivision (b)(2) shall have been administered by the institution at which the applicant taught. The department is authorized to promulgate rules and regulations to define proficiency in evaluations;(3) Attend in-service training sessions, both before and during licensure, as required by the state board of education in consultation with institutions of higher education;(4) Participate in a mentoring program to be established by the state board of education throughout the first school year during which the applicant is licensed; and(5) Successfully complete all exams required for licensure for the subject area in which the applicant is seeking licensure.
