Position Description: We have one part-time (0.5 FTE), benefited Physical Education Teacher position open for the 2021-2022 school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. -Ablity to maintain and provide a safe learning environment -Engage K-8 learners in a multi-age environment -Teach health education classes focused on nutrition and health according to state standards -Provide structured activities during recess and lunch recess -Teach skills based activities, games, movement and leadership skills to kindergarten-8th grade students -Positively impact student growth and achievement, using progressive instructional strategies and strong knowledge of the appropriate curriculum and content area -Integrate content areas and technology into the physical education curriculum and across content areas -Effectively manage the learning environment, with an appreciation and understanding for student diversity -Follow state legal requirements and district and charter school building policies and procedures -Participate in other school-based activities and responsibilities as required of teacher leaders -Attend faculty meetings, team meetings and some monthly Council meetings as needed -Manage and maintain an inventory of physical education equipment -Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn -Experience with creating standards-based curriculum and varied assessments -Lead extracurricular intramural athletics and grade level programs as needed -Work with volunteers or co-teachers in the classroom & with families & community -Engage in reflective practice and participate in professional development activities demonstrating desire to grow as a learner
Required: -Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution -Current Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement (or CDE licensure application in process) -Highly qualified content knowledge -Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills -Unbridled enthusiasm for physical education and movement
Preferred: -Experience integrating multicultural issues and diverse perspectives in instruction -Knowledge of and deep belief in inclusion in the general education classroom for all students, including those on an IEP, with a 504 and/or learning English -Dedication to high standards of excellence and the success of all students; ability to build relationships and personalize instruction for students so that all are challenged to learn -Deep knowledge of instructional practices that will lead to high levels of student growth and achievement supported by authentic data and assessment -Knowledge of: bouldering safety and skills, cooperative games, developmental continuum of skills for PE
Salary: Commensurate with experience and position on the Horizons K-8 Salary Schedule which can be found via the Horizons K-8 website.
