African American Achievement Specialist (Locke)

Additionally, Green Dot’s first turnaround, Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy, was named Charter School of the Year by the California Charter Schools Association in 2019.
Locke College Prep Academy is seeking talented African American Achievement (AAA) Specialist with a desire to support and work with a team of school leaders who strive to ensure that all African American students are prepared for college, leadership and life. The AAA Specialist will case manage and provide additional academic and behavior support to 9th and 10th grade African American students to ensure they are on track to graduate meeting the college acceptance requirements for the University of California and California State University systems. Moreover, the AAA Specialist will lead school-wide initiatives aimed at eliminating the disproportionality of academic and behavioral outcomes between African American students and their peers. The AAA Specialist will supervised by the principal or assistant principal who oversees the AAA Committee.
> Case manage and provide academic and behavioral support for 9th and 10th grade African American students.
*Meeting with students showing risk factors with attendance, behavior and grades and connecting them with appropriate intervention supports.
*Facilitating parent meetings and conducting home visits.
*Partnering with teachers, special education case carriers, academic counselors and mentors to ensure success.
*Developing a tracking and progress monitoring tool
> Lead College for Certain Initiatives targeted specifically for African American Students, including but not limited to:
*Summer Induction program for incoming African American 9th graders and their families
*Summer Enrichment Sessions for returning African American students
*HBCU College Tours and Black Expo
*Black Student Union
*Organizing College for Certain workshops for parents and families
> Lead the African-American Achievement Committee, Strategic Plan and School-Wide Initiatives
*Organize, plan and facilitate bi-weekly AAA Committee Meetings
*Organize, plan and facilitate monthly African American Parent Council Meetings and parent workshop opportunities
*Develop and/or strengthen mentoring programs and interventions targeting African American students
*Co-develop and lead events and activities aimed at fostering a year-around, school culture that honors and celebrates African American heritage.
> Attend all Admin Team Meetings.
> A Bachelor’s degree is required
> A valid CA Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject teaching credential, or a PPS credential in School Counseling (or an equivalent out-of-state credential which is transferrable to California) is highly desirable
> You are passionate about improving outcomes for African American students and families and you have a deep knowledge of best practices for doing so
> You have experience working in an urban school setting similar to Locke
> You have knowledge of the South Los Angeles/Watts Community
> You have a proven track record of improving outcomes for African American students
> You have a demonstrated record of taking initiative, building consensus, and solving complex problems through effective change and project management
> You have a demonstrated record on effectively building, managing and sustaining impactful programs and systems
> You can work independently, manage time effectively and work as a member of a team
> You have excellent interpersonal communication and written skills
> You have a strong ethical base and self-awareness
> You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
> You have a valid CA driver’s license
> You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer
