POSITON TITLE: Secondary School Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Instruction
FLSA: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Teaches one or more subjects such as English, Science, Mathematics or Social Studies to students in public or private secondary schools.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelors Degree
- Certificate to teach from appropriate state agency.
- Completion of teaching internship.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Teaches content and skills in the assigned area of instruction to secondary students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs students in subject matter, utilizing various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration; uses audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentation.
- Prepares teaching outline for course of study; assigns lessons and corrects homework papers.
- Administers tests to evaluate progress, records results and issues reports to inform parents of student’s progress.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Adapts subject material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintains required inventory records.
- Adapts the curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction to meet the needs of the individual pupil.
- Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions and other class activities.
- Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas.
- Evaluates each pupil’s progress in the area of study.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Identifies pupil needs, and cooperatives with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.

- Works with students and other classroom teachers in such activities as preparing materials for the school newspaper or yearbook, assisting with PTO Programs, or coordinating entries in essay contests.
- Administers or monitors group tests
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs and implement same.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities to include in and out of school activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
- Other assigned tasks required of the immediate supervisor.
- Keep attendance records
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
