Develop a strategic vision for K-2 literacy development in alignment with the BZA literacy strategy.
Relentlessly pursue more than 90% of students on or above grade level by the end of the year by progress monitoring the grade appropriate milestones.
Ensure that schemes of learning and resources support the development of literacy in subject areas.
Lead, develop and enhance the literacy teaching practice of others.
Coordinate literacy interventions for students at each primary school.
Liaise and collaborate with content leaders and Student Support Services regarding student literacy difficulties. Create appropriate action plans.
Support colleagues with selecting appropriate resources and techniques to support students with literacy difficulties. Provide training as needed.
Support the Assistant Principal or Teacher Manager with evaluation of literacy practice across the school through lesson observations and learning walks.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the Literacy Strategy and Literacy Curriculum. Revise as needed.
Lead the creation of a structured transition from K2 to K3, ensuring all K3 teaching responds to the Literacy needs of the students on entry.
Co-lead the region in the identification, implementation, and execution of a unified reading growth assessment.
To support curriculum development.
To keep up to date with national developments in English and teaching practice and methodology, and ensure they are embedded where appropriate.
To ensure that Literacy is contextualised against real life scenarios and linked cross curricular.
To actively monitor and respond to curriculum development and initiatives at national, regional and local levels.
Advise and support Academics Team and School Leadership Teams to ensure that staff development needs are identified and appropriate programs are designed to meet such needs.
To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relationships within and across teams.
To ensure effective and efficient deployment of classroom support.
To ensure the effective operation of high-quality enabling systems.
To help to establish common standards of practice and develop the effectiveness of teaching Literacy across the school.
To contribute to the school procedures for lesson observation.
To implement school quality procedures and to ensure adherence to those within English.
To seek/implement improvement where required within Literacy instruction across the school.
To ensure maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning Literacy within and across schools.
To assist in the use of analysis and evaluation of performance data.
To help to produce reports within the quality assurance cycle.
To help ensure that all staff within the school are familiar with its Literacy aims and objectives.
To ensure effective communication, as appropriate, with the parents of students.
To identify resource needs and ensure the efficient/effective use of physical resources.
To cooperate with other subject areas to ensure a sharing and effective use of resources to the benefit of the school and the students.
At least 5 years experience teaching early elementary education with a history of demonstrating results.
Early literacy assessment experience with effective data analysis leading to instructional actions; balanced literacy experience and expertise.
Experience in leading an initiative/large project across multiple schools.
Coaching experience, history of leading teams of teachers, and strong pedagogy to deliver impactful PD to teachers.
Bachelor’s required, Master’s in early literacy preferred
