POSITION(s): Elementary Special Program Teacher (Special Education)
Grades 1-8
START DATE: Tentative August 2021
REPORTS TO: Principal (To be determined)
WORK YEAR: 10 months
COMPENSATION: Refer to Current Teacher Salary Scale on District website

POSITION GOAL: To create and sustain a remote educational environment conducive to the fulfillment of the District’s Mission and Vision so that maximum positive impact on the education of children can be achieved. A remote learning teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering instruction in a virtual learning environment based on the approved curriculum and State Standards to help move students towards academic proficiency. Additionally, remote learning teachers are required to maintain frequent communication with parents and guardians. This position is considered a teacher on special assignment and can change at any time to in person teaching. As a teacher on special assignment, you are forfeiting your current placement and assignment. When this position is completed you will return to a relevant teaching position; however, it is not guaranteed to be in the one you are currently teaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
  1. Holds certification for a minimum of one of the positions above.
  2. Shows proficiency in Technology, Microsoft Office Applications, Children’s Educational Software, Google Drive, Schoology, SeeSaw, etc.
  3. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups.
  4. Shows evidence of knowledge regarding practices known to be effective in promoting student learning while working toward increasing student achievement.
  5. Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job related tasks.
  6. Maintains regular attendance as an essential function of the position.
  7. All individuals applying, must be able to teach in person and remotely based upon students’ needs.
  8. Ensures ample bandwidth and appropriate internet access is accessible to deliver remote learning instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District.
  • Adheres to remote learning guidelines and expectations
    • Ensures ample bandwidth and appropriate internet access is accessible to deliver remote learning instruction
    • Provides virtual instruction daily unless otherwise indicated
    • Launches Zoom remote learning sessions on time
    • Logs into Zoom academic support sessions (office hours) daily and remains on for the entire time
    • Maintains appropriate physical space (i.e., “home office/workspace’) in order to deliver remote learning instruction
    • Provides students with frequent timely feedback
    • Engages in ongoing parent communication and responds to parent emails within an appropriate time period
    • Models and/or uses Interactive modeling strategies to teach behavior and academic expectations
    • Frequently grades assignments and enters data into appropriate platforms

    • Attends assigned Professional Learning Communities
    • Checks email regularly
    • Provides a parent and student orientation regarding platforms, protocols, and expectations
    • Incorporates small group and individual instruction into daily lesson plans
    • Refers students and families to appropriate support services as necessary (i.e., school nurse, school counselor, school-based team, etc.)
    • Understands he/she will be evaluated using the Teacher and Learning Framework
    • Understands this assignment is not intended to serve as a substitute for child or adult care
    • Enters applicable annual or sick leave accruals in Data Service Center if unable to work any portion of the day while working virtually
    • Follows all expectations required of teachers in the district.
