SUMMARY: The District’s Equity Counsel/Title IX Coordinator is an in-house legal position responsible for working collaboratively with District leadership to support the School District’s equity commitments, including nondiscrimination laws and policies. The Equity Counsel/Title IX Coordinator Counsel will coordinate the District’s Title IX implementation and compliance, assist with the School District’s complaint processes, and provide legal services to District staff and administrators as needed on a wide variety of matters, including transactional, student, and employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES: -Coordinate the administration of the district’s procedures for investigating and resolving Title IX and other discrimination complaints. -Ensure district compliance and manage day-to-day responsibilities regarding State, federal and district policies to prevent and prohibit discrimination. -Develop and implement training initiatives to educate students and staff on rights, responsibilities, and resources regarding nondiscrimination and equitable educational environments. -Supervise and coordinate internal investigations on behalf of the district concerning violations of district policy, discrimination, harassment, and any other discrimination related matters. -Create and maintain a tracking system for investigation materials and the outcome of all investigated cases. Analyze data and create proactive measures to address trends and patterns. -Work with students, staff, families and community partners to advance the District’s Title IX work and equity commitments. -Serve as a resource for staff on compliance with Title IX. -Assist legal counsel in providing legal guidance on issues as assigned. -Engage in professional development activities to keep current on school law developments. -Provide representation in court and other administrative processes, including truancy cases, expulsion hearings, Office for Civil Rights reviews and complaints, subpoenas, etc, as assigned. -Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: -Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited institution. -Must possess a Colorado Law License -Must have a Colorado driver's license -Minimum of two to five years experience in antidiscrimination and civil rights law, education law, employment law, representation of public entities. -Completed and submitted BVSD on-line application -Communicate (read, write, and speak) in English, must pass English component of interview process
