CLASS TITLE:
Infant/Toddler Educator
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under supervision and the direction of the Master Teacher, performs the necessary duties to assist in the
planning and implementation of a comprehensive full year child development program for infants/toddlers.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assists in planning and implementing suitable full day, full year learning experiences for infants and toddlers.
Helps infants and toddlers develop positive interpersonal relationships with peers and caregivers.
Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of individual children's programs.
Assists in the observation and recording of infants’ and toddlers’ development and progress.
Supervises and/or participates in outdoor activities with infants and toddlers.
Assists in setting up, monitoring and cleaning up of classroom.
Operates equipment and machines necessary to program operation, e.g., photocopier, washer/dryer.
Does position related clerical tasks, e.g., attendance reports, lunch count.
Functions as an appropriate, positive role model.
Attends appropriate staff meetings and in-service trainings.
May assist children, caregivers and/or parents with communication problems resulting from a limited
knowledge of English.
Assists in communicating child and parent needs to appropriate support service personnel in school and
community.
Conduct home visits with families as required.
Substitutes as classroom teacher when necessary.
Assists with housekeeping duties, e.g., laundry, disinfecting of toys.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school required. One year experience in an early childhood setting preferred. Enrollment
in Associates or Bachelor’s degree program in child development or related field preferred.
Three units infant/toddler care development required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification
California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher level permit with a minimum 3 units
infant/toddler care and development required.
Valid California driver's license.
Be insurable and maintain insurability.
May be required to provide own transportation.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a program administrator, implement a center or home-based education program for
eligible preschool children assuring compliance with the Performance Standards of Head Start or State required
program and other appropriate guidelines; develop education plans to meet assessed needs; interpret family and
child eligibility for federal and State programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Implement a center or home-based education program for eligible children assuring compliance with
thePerformance Standards of Head Start or guidelines established for State-funded programs and other
appropriate guidelines; participate in program evaluation.
Design and implement an individual education program for each child according to assessed developmental
needs; inform parents regarding the child's educational plan and identify activities which parents can utilize as
educational activities in the home; assist families with preparing goals.
Integrate program components of health, nutrition, parent education, social services, and mental health into the
daily program of educational activities.
Interpret family and child eligibility for federal and State programs; recruit and register eligible
children/families.
Develop and maintain a plan for an initial and continuing relationship between program staff and parents,
including home visitation plans; implement appropriate activities during home education visits; provide training
to parents focusing on their role as primary educator of their children; arrange parent socials and encourage
parent participation in various program activities.
Establish content of material and conduct a monthly parent education program related to Head Start
Performance Standards or State-funded programs; respond to parent requests for information or questions or
concerns regarding the program.
Prepare and maintain classroom records and reports required for individual child, class, and program
compliance; maintain student files.
Participate in center parent committee activities to review center activity progress and direction as requested.
Provide and maintain required adult supervision in the classroom; involve parent and community volunteers in
the activities of the program; supervise volunteer efforts.
Conduct or participate in various in-service training programs; attend staff, policy, and other meetings as
assigned.
Comply with referral procedures in seeking assistance in meeting child and family needs; establish liaison with
community agencies, make referrals and provide for follow-up activities.
Operate a variety of instructional machines and equipment.



Maintain the classroom or work area in clean and orderly condition; order classroom supplies as needed.
Assist with the articulation activities to the regular school program; assist with the transition from Head Start to
Kindergarten with appropriate records; follow up as appropriate.
