POSITION SUMMARY:


This is a Career Academy position that supports the successful implementation and management of the Academy model at the assigned school. The teacher provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques that meet the needs of all students. The teacher provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. This position monitors and evaluates student performance, develops and implements plans to improve student performance, maintains required records, and follows required PGCPS procedures and practices. The teacher will be responsible for preparing students to successfully take and pass the AutoCAD credentialing exam as well as the Revit Architecture certification exam at the completion of the program.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the School Improvement Plan;

Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development;

Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials;

Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessional educators, student teachers, and volunteers;

Prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results;

Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including, but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multimedia teaching aids to present subject matter to students;

Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques;

Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;

Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, Board Policy and Administrative Procedures;

Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives;

Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise;

Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students;

Arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary;

Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities;

Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives and methods;

Improves skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multi-cultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections;

Participates in continuous school improvement activities, advisory committee meetings, and pro-active professional development workshops and seminars;

Provides students with broad, transferable concepts and job skills: such as job search, interviewing, and résumé writing skills;

Collaborates with the school Academy team and Central Office to fully implement the Career Academy model with fidelity;

Works with school Academy team and Central Office to implement content literacy standards uniformly across the curricular areas;

In conjunction with the school Academy team and Central Office produces and implements multi-disciplinary, project-based learning experiences for students;

Participates with Academy team members to develop appropriate intervention and enrichment strategies for identified students for use in the classroom and though other delivery methods (e.g. after-school); and

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Knowledge of and experience with Construction Management and practices;

Knowledge of and experience with Civil and Mechanical Engineering as well as Architectural design;

Knowledge of and experience with business administration, and functional management;

Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction in field of specialization;

Knowledge of and experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology as well as the design-build-maintain process and innovative technologies including Green Construction and Design;

Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education;

Ability to infuse technology into curriculum;

Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff;

Ability to work with diverse populations;

Ability to infuse technology into curriculum;

Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff;

Proficient in Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Revit Architecture;

Excellent knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning process; and

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


Bachelor's degree or higher in a state-approved career and technical program or in the career area to be taught from an accredited college/universities; or Associates degree in the career area to be taught or a Bachelor’s degree not related to the career area to be taught and official verification of two (2) years of satisfactory occupational experience in the career area to be taught.



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Holds or is eligible for a Professional Certificate appropriate to area of assignment issued by the Maryland State Department of Education; Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate preferred.




SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:


No direct supervisory responsibilities.
