POSITION: Structured Literacy Support Coach

Livingston Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Principal


OBJECTIVE: To increase student literacy achievement by supporting and improving

teacher effectiveness

This is a grant-funded position for three years, and there is no guarantee it will continue after the 2026-27 school year.


  1. Holds a valid Georgia Teaching or Service certification at level 4 or higher
  2. Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or Special Education or related field
  3. Advanced preparation in Reading/Literacy through completion of Reading Endorsement, Dyslexia Endorsement or independent training program approved by International Dyslexia Association
  4. Minimum of five years elementary teaching experience, including evidence-based word recognition and comprehension instruction


  1. Thorough understanding of reading processes, acquisition, assessment and instruction
  2. Thorough understanding of systematic, explicit instructional practices
  3. Thorough understanding of instructional coaching approaches and strategies for teaching adult learners
  4. Thorough understanding of scientific reading research and its application to effective classroom instruction, structure, and practices, as well as interventions
  5. Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  6. Demonstrate ability to attend to details and to efficiently multi-task
  7. Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Program
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of research-based instructional strategies
  10. Demonstrate ability to model and assist teachers in implementing instructional strategies in ELA and reading
  11. Demonstrate knowledge of available instructional interventions and the ability to supervise and evaluate their effective implementation
  12. Demonstrate ability to interpret and implement federal laws, state rules, and local policies
  13. Demonstrate an ability to collect, analyze, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data
  14. Demonstrate professional interpersonal skills with school staff, central office staff,

parents/guardians, students, and community

  1. Demonstrate ability to work with limited supervision
  2. Demonstrate an excellent attendance record


  1. Works in CSI schools to support the Georgia Early Literacy Act
  2. Attends all required GaDOE professional learning
  3. Assists school leadership with aligning schoolwide systems, processes and resources to structured literacy as defined by the Georgia Literacy Act
  4. Assists school administrators with providing regular and user-friendly data reports
  5. Assists K-3 teachers in addressing grade specific curriculum by developing an effective school-wide literacy plan and providing strategies for monitoring the plan’s implementation
  6. Collaborates with Regional structured literacy support coaches to design and conduct professional development to meet the varied needs of K-3 teachers
  7. Facilitates and leads structured coaching cycles with teachers, fostering a collaborative and growth-orientated environment that includes goal setting, modeling, lesson observation, constructive feedback and reflective discussions to enhance literacy instruction and student outcomes
  8. Provides clear, practical, timely and candid written and oral feedback to teachers about their instruction
  9. Conferences with teachers identified for additional support to create, implement and monitor goals and plans for improving practice
  10. Meets regularly with principal, other school-based coaches, and K-3 teachers to review all formative and summative data (including required screeners) and make recommendations for adjustments in instructional practices
  11. Maintains an organized system for documenting coaching services
  12. Performs other duties that are appropriate for this position, in ompliance with the Georgia Department of Education’s Literacy Coach Assurances
