STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE:
Military Academy Trainer

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Principal of the Academy, assist in the direction, coordination and facilitation of
the activities of the students as it pertains to creating and maintaining a military and character training
environment; assists in individualized instruction program designed by the teacher; assist in testing, scoring
tests and in the evaluation of instruction and student’s progress and problems; assure student compliance with
the academy and County attendance and discipline policies and regulations.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist in the direction, coordination and facilitation of the activities of the students as it pertains to creating and
maintaining a military and character training environment.
Support cadets in drill performances for the purposes of teaching self-discipline, self-respect and for
competition events, parades and other events.
Assists/supports students in the area of physical training for the purpose of preparing students to pass physical
fitness conditioning tests.
Trains students in military close quarter drill marching and drills for the purpose of ensuring that students can
perform in a para-military setting.
Assists in individualized instruction programs designed by the teacher.
Assist in testing, scoring tests and in the evaluation of instruction and student’s progress and problems.
Assure student compliance with Academy and County attendance and discipline policies and regulations.
Develop and sustain a student leadership structure that is self-sustaining and provides opportunity for students
to learn and practice leadership skills.
Assist with the coordination of student activities with a variety of community and military organizations
including, but not limited to participation in community service activities, participation in parades and
celebrations and participation in military activities and competitions.
Serves as the primary resource for staff on military subject matter, military protocol and character training.
Originates and prepares all subject matter for Military Science class.
Complies with all regulatory guidelines outlined in the Stanislaus County Office of Education Handbook and
the Academy Student Handbook.
Provides comprehensive educational instruction to students enrolled in the academy program.
Assesses and documents military science, drill and ceremony, physical training and student leadership skills.
Maintains documentation of student progress in these areas.

Collaborates with general education staff, special education staff, guidance counselors, and school
administrators as needed, to maximize program effectiveness.
Coordinates with all SCOE department personnel to plan, organize and conduct extracurricular and co-
curricular activities to meet requirements established in the SCOE handbook.
Attend a variety of meetings, conferences and other activities; serve on assigned committees.
Must be able to do multiple overnight trainings with students on a rotation basis, as directed.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Military protocol, military science, and character training.
Methods of individual and group supervision.
Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
Citizenship and physical education.
Interests, attitudes and emotional development of adolescents.
Operation of a computer and assigned software.
Record-keeping techniques.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Health and safety regulations.
First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certified.
ABILITY TO:
Assure student compliance with school and County policies and regulations.
Interpret, apply and explain laws, rules and regulations.
Perform duties with patience, tact and good judgment within established guidelines.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Observe situations and accurately determine an effective course of action.
Operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned.

Observe health and safety regulations.
Maintain records and reports.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year experience working with youth is
desirable. A minimum of two (2) years active duty experience within the Armed Forces of the United States
with an honorable discharge is desirable. Military style dress may be required.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must be NCLB compliant by:
Hold an AA Degree or completion of two years of study (minimum of 48 units) at an institution of higher
education or pass a local academic assessment demonstrating knowledge of and the ability to assist in
instructing reading, writing and mathematics.
Must obtain upon employment first aid and CPR certification.
Valid California Driver’s license.
Meet SCOE’s driving and training requirements.
Uniforms are provided and must be worn when on campus or on duty.

Classroom and outdoor environment.
Seasonal heat and cold, and adverse weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Lifting light weighted objects; pushing or pulling objects using heavy force.
Standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
Walking or running over uneven surfaces.
Seeing to monitor student activities and read a variety of materials.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
