CLASS TITLE:
Educational Options - Independent Study/Community School/Career Technical Education
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned Administrator, provides a wide variety of individual and group instruction to
students enrolled in the Educational Options program to ensure appropriate instruction as determined by the
State of California Standards.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide a wide variety of individual and group instruction to students enrolled in the Educational Options
program to ensure students meet educational objectives.
Assist in the development of curriculum materials and individualized lessons involving academic, career
technical education, and technology skill areas--elementary and secondary level
Maintains records of student attendance course work and grades to provide program accountability.
Work cooperatively with staff, parents, students, community agencies, and/or school district staff to provide a
positive and productive learning environment to students who may have experienced limited success in regular
schools.
Promotes good citizenship, conduct, initiative and good work habits to motivate students and encourage their
academic and social growth.
Assess academic and social growth of assigned students in pursuit of graduation or reentry into private or
traditional public schools.
Provide guidance to support staff assigned to the program which addresses the needs of individual students.
In compliance with the SCOE/SACP collective bargaining agreement, participate in various meetings (e.g.
parent conferences, in-service training, site meetings) to receive or provide information.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Lesson planning.
Grading procedures.
Basic academic, career technical education, and/or technology skills applications.
Individualized instruction teaching techniques.
Record-keeping techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Motivate and counsel students with possible attitude, self-confidence or behavior deficiencies.
Organize curriculum and learning materials.
Conduct tests designed to assess academic, career technical education and/or technology skills.

Ability to and/or willingness to participate in Employer paid training necessary to operate a computer for the
purpose of record keeping and functional program areas.
Maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.
Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, community and school officials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree.
Prior teaching experience in academic, career technical education or technology areas, grades 4 to 12 is
desirable.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California teaching credential for the appropriate level of instruction and/or subjects.
CLAD certification.
Must meet or be willing to participate in employer supported training/education necessary to meet highly
qualified teacher requirements in a high school 9-12 self-contained classroom.
Pass an employer-paid pre-employment physical/drug screening.
Department of Justice clearance.
Employee must arrange their own transportation. If using their own vehicle in the course of employment, must
have proof of insurance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to read instructional materials, rules and policies and other printed matter.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.
Walking over rough and uneven terrain, play yards and school grounds.
Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling light-medium weighted objects.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
