STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION
CLASS TITLE: Behavior Support Program Assistant
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the Autism Inclusion Teacher and/or Behavior Analyst and/or other appropriate
Certificated Staff assist certificated and classified staff in providing/reinforcing instruction to individual students
with severe social, behavior and/or communicative deficits such as those characteristics associated with but not
limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist district certificated and classified staff in providing/reinforcing instruction to individual students such as
those associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders, severe social behavior and/or communicative deficits.
Create and assist in maintenance of student visual schedules, behavior modification systems, organization, self-
monitoring and instructional strategy accommodations and modifications.
Organize and present curriculum to students one-on-one or in small group addressing social skills, academic
and organizational behavior.
Train district paraprofessionals in support of interventions under the general supervision of the Autism
Inclusion Teacher and/or Behavior Analyst and/or other appropriate Certificated Staff.
Collect and maintain data on student behavior. Report student progress regarding implementation of interventions
by staff members to assigned Autism Inclusion Teacher and/or Behavior Analyst.
Provide supervised service to individual students, parents, classroom teachers, and other staff.
May include behavioral and/or curricular instruction strategies.
Research current information on cost, availability, and utilization of new products.
Act as liaison between staff and classroom teacher by initiating and maintaining communication through email,
written notes and phone calls under the supervision of Autism Inclusion Teacher and/or Behavior Analyst.
Pick up and deliver materials to school sites or classrooms as needed.
Assist in completing attendance registers for submission to MIS.
Maintain an inventory of department materials
Maintain Outlook Calendar accurately and consistently
Participate in program trainings and maintain skill level needed for position.
Meet with program staff regularly regarding student progress.
Attend IEP meetings and other meetings as assigned with Autism Inclusion Teacher and/or Behavior Analyst.
Perform other related tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or other Disorders with severe social, behavior and/or communicative deficit
characteristics, Applied Behavior Analytic program delivery.
Personal computers and operating systems; e.g., Apple/Macintosh, Word, P.C. Windows, scanners, Photoshop,
Board Maker, Excel, and Outlook calendars, email, handheld technology, mobile technology, voice output
devices and other current technology being used in the program.
Visual systems (schedules, organization, behavior charts, token economies, academic supports etc).
Correct English usage: grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Record keeping techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Communicate effectively and tactfully using patience and courtesy when speaking with or writing instructions
or directions to students and staff.
Learn computer programs and other technology based on program needs.
Understand, interpret, and carry out in an independent manner both oral and written instructions.
Work effectively with students with ASD, behavioral challenges and/or social deficits.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance
of required duties.
Keyboard, format and produce a variety of documents related to the basic function of the assigned
classification.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Work independently with little to no direction.
Adapt to change in work environment on various school campuses in various settings (LH, SH, RSP, GEN ED,
PLAYGROUND, CAFETERIA, GYM).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and at least two (2) years experience working with
students with Autism or other behavior and/or communication and/or social deficits.
College coursework or equivalent training hours in social skills, Applied Behavior Analysis, and direct
instruction is desirable.
LICENSE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a Valid California driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Employee must provide their own transportation.
ENVIRONMENT:
Driving to various school sites.
Indoor/outdoor work environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Some positions in this classification may be required to lift medium weighted objects.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling light-medium equipment.
Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students.
Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
