STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE:
Educational Audiologist
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, perform hearing evaluations on infant children to young
adults; assist students with hearing-impairments with hearing amplification and auditory skills; communicate
with staff regarding auditory skills, issues and methods.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Perform comprehensive audio-logical evaluations of infant children to young adults; administer auditory
comprehension tests and prepare appropriate evaluations reports, including input to IEP teams.
Refer students for additional testing and evaluations, such as audiological communications, educational,
psycho-social or medical assessments.
Serve as a member of faculty teams and develop recommendations regarding placement, communication needs,
and modification of classroom environment for students with hearing impairments or other auditory ailments.
Provide specifications for individual and classroom amplification devices; assure proper fit and function of
hearing aids and other listening devices.
Analyze classroom noise and acoustics; present recommendations for improving the listening environment and
determine appropriate use of personal, group and classroom amplification and assistive listening devices.
Provide in-service training on hearing, hearing impairments, and implications to school personnel, children and
parents; provide information and instruction in the areas of speech, reading, listening, communication strategies,
the use and care of amplification, and the self-management of hearing needs.
Instruct parents, children and school personnel regarding hearing impairment and prevention; interpret
assessment results for other school personnel as requested.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports regarding student audio-logical evaluations, dates and
results of hearing aid inspections, results and recommendations of auditory accommodation as a result of
auditory comprehension tests; prepare records and reports to be submitted to appropriate County, State or
district office.
Operate a variety of specialized audiometric equipment such as an audiometer, hearing aid analyzer,
tympanometer, otoscope, hearing aid stethoscope, and typewriter.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Methods and procedures of audiometry to perform hearing evaluations on infant, school-age children and young
adults.
Various forms of amplification in order to accommodate hearing-impaired individuals.
Various types of hearing aids and FM systems.
Educational assessment and interpretation of auditory test results.
Acoustic assessment and modification of classrooms and other facilities.

Case management methods and techniques.
Inter-agency services and community resources.
Basic instructional methods and techniques.
Proper operation of specialized equipment.
Public speaking techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Technical aspects of field of specialty.
Basics of sign language.
ABILITY TO:
Perform comprehensive audio-logical evaluations on infant children to young adults.
Assist students with hearing-impairments with amplification and auditory skills.
Make appropriate referrals for additional audio-logic, communication, educational or other assessments.
Interpret assessment results.
Analyze classroom noise and acoustics and make recommendations accordingly.
Assess student needs and develop viable plans and alternatives.
Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, community and school officials both orally and in
writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Work independently with little direction.
Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree.
MA/MS in Audiology preferred
One year experience working in the field of audiology.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Clinical Rehabilitative Services credential with a specialization in audiology.
Current California licensure in audiology.
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology.
Pass an employer paid pre-employment physical/drug screening.

Department of Justice clearance.
Employee must arrange their own transportation. If using their own vehicle in the course of employment, must
have proof of insurance.
