CLASS TITLE:
Itinerant Preschool Arts Assistant – Child and Family Services
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of assigned program administrator, assist the Arts Instructor – CFS in implementing
art and art related instruction and education for children receiving California State Preschool Program
(CSPP) services, assisting with the leading of groups of children in diverse artistic activities, including
music, dance, craft art, basic photography, drawing, painting, and basic culinary arts and supporting the
accommodation for the individual needs and abilities of children.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Assist in the implementation of engaging arts instruction and education tailored to the diverse needs and
abilities of preschool children as various sites across the assigned service region which covers multiple
counties.
Assist in the facilitation of group sessions for children in various artistic disciplines, fostering creativity
and self-expression.
Assist children with developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; serve as a
positive role model for students.
Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the social and emotional
well-being of children.
Assist in providing individualized support to children, adapting activities to accommodate varying
developmental levels and abilities.
Assist in monitoring children’s progress in the arts and assisting in setting up, monitoring and cleaning
up of project materials.
Assist in the organizing and participate in program events and showcases to celebrate children’s artistic
achievements.
Assist teachers with implementing arts projects and supporting staff with integrating arts education into
instructional delivery.
Assure the health and safety of children by following health and safety practices and procedures; assist in
maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment.
Communicate effectively with program site staff, itinerant staff, and other SCOE division employees, as
needed.
Communicate with children using developmentally appropriate speech to the child’s level of
understanding including, but not limited to, verbal, picture/symbol systems, technology, and functional
signs.
Serve in an itinerant role which requires traveling to various preschool classrooms across the multi-
county service region.

Comply with Stanislaus County Office of Education Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Policies and objectives of assigned program. Child growth and development principles.
Record-keeping techniques.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy. Operation of various instructional equipment.
ABILITY TO:
Implement a comprehensive child development program for preschool aged children as assigned at
various preschool locations.
Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the social and emotional well-being
of children.
Monitor children’s progress in the arts and assist in setting up, monitoring and cleaning up of project
materials.
Implement best practices in arts education for preschool populations and incorporate relevant strategies
into instructional approaches.
Provide support to students and staff.
Lead classroom activities as assigned.
Work effectively with various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Abide by schedules and the itinerant nature and
demands of the program.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Operate various
instructional equipment.
Operate a vehicle.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school required.
Enrollment in college for the purpose of completing a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or
higher-level permit preferred.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to provide own transportation.
Lift test.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Seeing to monitor students and read a variety of materials. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to
assist students. Standing for extended periods of time.
Driving a vehicle across multiple counties.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus (e.g. latches, levers and switches on
certain devices like gates, cribs and playground equipment) and standard office and classroom
equipment.
Pushing, pulling and lifting light-medium weighted objects.
Frequently standing, walking and sitting.
