General Job Function:

To provide each educable student with a program that will enable him/her to reach his/her fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential through an individual education plan (IEP).

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Properly certified in all areas of assignment;
  • Demonstrate cooperativeness and a willingness to carry out assigned tasks and performance responsibilities;
  • Bilingual Endorsed is highly preferable
  • Other qualifications determined necessary by the Board

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

The candidate must be able to work with all staff and follow the curriculum and requirements. Basic computer skills (office/web-based applications) are required. The candidate must be willing to participate in training and professional development with the District Program Director and Site Coordinator. Candidates must have good interpersonal skills with students and be willing to work with families.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to walk, talk, and listen. Frequently is required to stand and sit. Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.

Environmental Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Develop and implement the IEP for students on caseload, including completing reevaluation packets, identifying present levels of performance, and other components of the IEP.
  2. Conduct Annual IEPs by the due date.
  3. Complete and submit Re-evaluation packets 60 days before the evaluation due date.
  4. Schedule and conduct EDT meetings within the given timeline.
  5. Work collaboratively with ancillary and diagnostic staff to implement the IEP.
  6. Provide a basic care program for educated students consistent with State education code requirements and locally adopted guidelines.
  7. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have Special Education students in regular classes, interpreting these students' abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
  8. Confer frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the student’s wellness, strengths, educational, social, and personal behavior problems, and progress of such students.
  9. Assist other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological learning or disciplinary problems of the student.
  10. Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placements of applicants in the school’s Special Education Program.
  11. Assist special education students in making a realistic assessment of their abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals to maintain these abilities.
  12. Motivate students who have a short attention span.
  13. Establish and maintain standards of individual student behavior.
  14. Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent to student activities including in and out of school activities.
  15. Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities including in and out-of-school activities.
  16. Implement EPSS and participate in curriculum development programs, curriculum benchmarks, alignment, performance standards/assessments and revisions, including the bilingual curriculum. Express your views and professional observation to the E.A. and R. Committee and provide input in developing/modifying IEP(s).
  17. Gather data to develop strategies for student improvement.
  18. Initiate the selection of equipment and materials and maintain required inventory records.
  19. Supervise pupils in and out of school activities as assigned.
  20. Administer Group Standardized Tests under the district testing program.
  21. Administer the Language Assessment Scale Testing and Scoring in both English and Spanish.
  22. Participate in filling out a Time Study for Medicaid reimbursement.
  23. Attend Board meetings at the request of the Superintendent or his/her authorized designee.
  24. Arranging and attending field trips (for example: trips to the zoo, State Fair, swimming, bowling, etc.)
  25. Accompanying students to bathrooms, assisting with toileting, lifting as needed to assist the student
  26. Rearranging classrooms to accommodate student learning activities, developing learning centers and/or quiet areas,
  27. Transferring and/or relocating student working files
  28. Some travel involved from school to the central office and other locations as needed
  29. Perform other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).

Personal Accountability:

  1. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
  2. Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
  3. Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  4. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  5. Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special application,
  6. Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

EMPLOYMENT: Upon an offer of employment, pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1968, pass a background check and provide necessary documentation qualifications.
