Job Title
GEAR UP Math Teacher
Location: Carlos Vigil Middle School
Position Summary-

Carlos Vigil Middle School is seeking a qualified GEAR UP Math Teacher to support middle
school students through targeted mathematics instruction aligned with district curriculum, New
Mexico state standards, and the goals of the federally funded GEAR UP (Gaining Early
Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) initiative. The GEAR UP Math
Teacher provides academic support, intervention, and enrichment to promote student
achievement, college readiness, and long-term academic success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide math instruction and academic support aligned with New Mexico Content
• Standards and district curriculum
• Deliver small-group instruction, intervention, tutoring, and enrichment for middle school
• students
• Support students identified through academic data as needing additional math support
• Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, counselors, and GEAR UP
• staff
• Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide
• instruction
• Maintain accurate records and documentation required by the district and GEAR UP
• grant
• Integrate college, career, and postsecondary awareness into instructional activities
• Create and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and school staff
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required GEAR UP activities
• Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration or GEAR UP program

Minimum Qualifications / Licensure

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• Valid New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Teaching License or
• eligibility to obtain one
• Middle Level (5–9) or Secondary (7–12) license with a Mathematics endorsement, as
• appropriate
• Ability to meet district background check and employment requirements
• Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching middle school mathematics
• Experience working with grant-funded or intervention programs (GEAR UP preferred)
• Experience working with diverse student populations
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
• Knowledge of data-driven instruction and intervention strategies
• Work Schedule
• Schedule may include instructional time during the school day, after-school
• programming, and/or summer programming as required by the GEAR UP grant
