JOB DESCRIPTION

ASSISTANT COACH

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Properly certified by NMPED
  2. Knowledgeable in the area of assignment;
  3. Preferably experienced and competent in required shills of the assigned sport and/or academic competitions;
  4. Other qualifications determined to be necessary by the Board.

REPORTS TO: Head Coach, Athletic Director or Activity Coordinator and/or individual school principals-immediate Supervisor, as assigned and applicable. Superintendent of schools-General Supervisor

JOB GOAL: to help each participating student achieve a high level of skill and appreciation for the

Values of discipline and sportsmanship/competition and an increased level of self-esteem.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coach/Sponsor individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport or academic competition involved and promote school spirit and price.
  2. Work closely with the Head Coach in scheduling practice sessions, intra-mural, inter-scholastic contests and activities.
  3. Maintain necessary paperwork as required.
  4. Supervise athletes at all times and oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
  5. Follow performance criteria and rules for eligibility including; grades for participation in extra-curricular competitions.
  6. Follow written rules and consequences for social conduct, (enforce rules and consequences) via Athlete’s Agreement and meet with parents of athletes regarding rules and consequences.
  7. Enforce rules, discipline and sportsman-like behavior at all times and establish and oversee penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
  8. Travel with athletes, coaches and/or sponsors to and FROM for supervision purposes, unless other comparable arrangements are made accordingly with the approval of the Head Coach, Athletic Director or Activity Coordinator, as applicable.
  9. Comply with NMAA Rules and Regulations as well as with School Board Policy.
  10. Actively participate in fundraising activities for meals, lodging, equipment, uniforms, tennis shoes, shirts, summer programs and transportation for activities.
  11. Daily, oversee that the gym floor and other playing areas are clean and safe, inclusive of bleachers.
  12. Implement effective and/or required appropriate dress code for athletes.
  13. Communicate monthly or sooner with parents regarding athlete(s) and/or participant(s).
  14. Perform other assigned tasks required by the supervisor(s).

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Annually-Duration of sports activity/Work Schedule/Activities/Games/Schedules and Hours to be established by the Coach. Athletic Director/Activity Coordinator and/or Principal
