POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Carpentry Master Foreman, the Carpenter will perform skilled carpentry work of a journeyman level in rough and finished buildings. An employee in this class performs skilled work involving responsibility for efficient and workmanlike performance. The work is usually performed under the supervision of a Carpenter Foremen. The Carpenter position can be assisted by Trades Helpers and Apprentices.

This is a 12-month local 2250 ACE/AFSCME position-pay table 200-grade 15Salary range- from: $23.83 - 47.49CLOSING DATE: December 14, 2025

Detailed Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Makes and repairs cabinets, decks, tables and other furniture;Makes and repairs windows frames and sashes;Makes and repair partitions, complete covering with dry wall and paneling;Makes repairs to screens:Repairs doors, locks and hardware; Constructs small buildings and additions; Operates woodworking machinery;Applies spackling to seams and nail heads; Installs ceiling; Lays various types of floors and floor covering; Builds forms for pouring concrete; Supervises the work of Apprentices and trades helpers; Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:Good knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the trade;Ability to estimate time and materials as needed;Ability to operate common woodworking machinery;Ability to lay out work for self and others; Ability to rig and work from scaffolds; and must be in good physical condition;Willingness to work day or evening hours as required;Completion of high school, standard vocational school course(s), GED and trade school course with some Experience as a carpenter and supplemented by completion of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of an appropriate and valid Motor vehicle operator's license with driving record indicating five (5) or fewer current points of which no more than three (3) shall have been accumulated as a result of traffic violations occurring while operating a Board of Education vehicle.Deemed as essential personnel, and may be required to work day, night or weekend hours to meet the operational needs of the department.EDUCATION AND/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:High school diploma, GED, or completion of trade school program required; with some experience as a carpenter; supplemented by completion of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities.CERTIFIATION REQUIREMENTS:NONE REQUIREDSUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITES:NONEPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee must have the strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including the ability to climb a 40' vertical ladder, work from scaffolding and a bucket truck, the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 80 lbs., work in cramped interior spaces, and the ability to do extensive walking, bending, stooping, crawling and kneeling in the course of completing daily work assignments.
