CLASS TITLE:
Full Inclusion Teacher – Visual Impairment/Orientation and Mobility
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, organize and implement services for pupils with severe vision
impairments including assessment of pupils' functional vision; evaluate and recommend appropriate assistive
technology and modified reading materials for pupil's use; instruct pupils in skills necessary to utilize recommended
assistive technology and skills unique to impaired vision; collaborate with teachers, parents, other support personnel
and administrators to facilitate inclusion of pupils in the least restrictive learning environment.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Receive referrals of pupils and plan for completing of the assessment process within defined special education
timelines.
Collaborate with classroom teachers as well as other support personnel when appropriate, select and administer
formal and/or informal assessments of pupils.
Prepare written assessment reports.
Evaluate pupils' need for and, if needed, recommend appropriate assistive technology and specialized reading
materials.
Locate and assemble information necessary for the purchase of recommended assistive technology and large type
and Braille reading material.
Prepare written requests for the purchase of specialized equipment, materials and supplies recommended by the IEP
team including requests to be submitted to the Stanislaus SELPA for the purchases using Low incidence Funds.
Prepare Present Levels of Performance, Annual Goals and Short-Term Objectives for review at IEP Team Meetings.
Attend IEP Meetings as necessary.
Plan and implement instructional activities for students in specialized skills.
Collaborate with and give guidance to teachers, instructional assistants, other support personnel and parents.
Document student progress toward achievement of annual goals and report same to parents on the schedule followed
by the school site.
Prepare Braille, large type and tactile materials as necessary.
Maintain accurate registers, records and files.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
The unique learning needs of pupils commonly manifested by severe visual impairments.
Child development.
Locating reliable sources and suppliers of specialized reading materials and equipment.
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as it pertains to Assistive Technology.

ABILITY TO:
Teach Braille reading and writing to pupils.
Assess the functional vision of pupils with impaired vision.
Communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
Relate with a wide variety of professional staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree.
Successful experience as a teacher of the visually handicapped in a public-school setting.
Evidence of advanced training in the area of Educational Assistive Technology from a recognized program is
desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California Education Specialist Instruction credential authorizing service as a teacher of the visually impaired.
May also be required to hold an Orientation and Mobility authorization depending upon the assignment.
EL authorization.
Pass an employer paid pre-employment physical and drug screening.
Department of Justice clearance.
Employee must arrange their own transportation. If using their own vehicle in the course of employment, must have
proof of insurance.
