Position Summary
The School Police Clinical Social Worker Intern will support and act as a liaison between
the Clark County School District Police Services (CCSDPS) and students and their
families who have received services through (CCSDPS). Additionally, the School Police
Clinical Social Worker Intern will support school police administrators, their sworn
officers, and department staff. The School Police Clinical Social Worker Interns will
utilize evidence-based and nationally recognized instructional practices to interface with
the educational process and meet the needs of schools, students, and families in the
Clark County School District (CCSD). Using a strengths-based and system-wide
approach, School Police Clinical Social Worker Interns focus on prevention and
intervention by facilitating engagement between schools, families, and the community.
Emphasis will be on the application of methods, principles, and techniques of casework,
group work, community organization, administration, planning, consultation, research,
and psychotherapeutic methods and techniques to persons, families, and groups to help
in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional conditions affecting the student-s
academic achievement. The Clinical Social Worker Intern provides advanced-level
mental health treatment in individual and group settings. Primary duties include crisis
intervention, risk assessment, and diagnostic impression using the Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), providing short-term
stabilization services, and offering individual and group therapy. Treatment is provided
based on sound theoretical principles, with knowledge of the special issues and needs of
the population served. Treatment needs and strategies address the multifaceted needs
of a diverse population, taking into account the policies and procedures of CCSD. The
School Police Clinical Social Worker Intern is expected to interface with internal and
external treatment providers, as needed. This person will be expected to adhere to the
CCSD Professional Domains and Standards for Licensed Employees. The School Police
Clinical Social Worker Intern will be assigned to CCSD Police Services region command
centers and report directly to the CCSD Police Services administrator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be
supplemented as needed.
1. Addresses suicide and self-harm events, including SafeVoice - mental
health calls (planned school attacks/threats to schools, drug abuse/drug
distribution, bullying, assaults/battery, threats to students, etc.), to
address the root causes, which could be socioeconomic or behavioral
health (untreated trauma, homelessness, etc.) issues and offer
community resources.
2. Provides direct services to students and families; links children, youth, and
families to community agency resources; provides Response to Instruction (RTI)
Intervention on all three (3) tiers; and aligns services to meet the educational
needs of all students.
3. Ride along with an officer or be available to respond independently upon an
officer's request on the scene of an incident.
4. Serves as a liaison in a crisis for immediate response or assists in contacting the
appropriate school-based social worker/Safe School Professional (SSP) or
service.
5. Researches external resources and organizes/schedules training for police
officers in social work engagement techniques, which may include victim
counseling, stabilization and de-escalation techniques, skills for communicating
with abused children and mentally ill victims, stress management, and
community resource identification.
6. Attends police staff meetings to provide professional insight into practical
strategies for managing certain cases, such as mental health, homelessness,
and substance use (provides an overview of and resources in the community
regarding substance use, etc.), and recommends which types of intervention will
give the best results.

7. Serves as a Crisis Response team member to provide support with de-escalation
procedures.
8. Attends expulsion hearings upon requests to provide immediate resources or
referrals for students and their families.
9. Works directly with victims and families in need of crisis intervention, helping to
define the problem, examine options, and supports families in creating a plan.
10. Consults with police officers and answers questions as they arise.
11. Develops/supports police/student mentoring programs. Recruits police and
community members; develops re-engagement activities for students (My
Brother-s Keeper, Latin Chamber of Commerce, etc).
12. Maintains case documentation, makes follow-up calls, reviews cases, and
collects data.
13. Reviews cases and follow up directly with the site-based social worker and team,
school administrator, students, and parent/guardian, as appropriate.
14. Builds community relationships and participates in community and CCSD
1. meetings (Clark County School Justice Partnership, My Brother-s Keeper
Alliance, etc.).
15. Participates in the School Police social work unit meetings and trainings.
16. Collects data to support interventions for students and their families to address
the school-to-prison pipeline.
17. Participates and assists with CCSDPD Crisis Intervention Team training.
18. Develops and facilitates weekly support groups, providing students with
strategies to cope with and overcome social-emotional challenges that affect
their school performance.
19. Develops treatment plan with explicit goals.
20. Performs other duties related to the position, as assigned.
Position Expectations
1. Knowledge of school-wide positive behavior intervention and support (SWPBS),
RTI, and aversive interventions.
2. Knowledge of CCSD Multi-Tiered System for Services (MTSS), Clark County
School Justice Partnership Response Matrix, and the HARBOR Program.
3. Effective presentation and workshop facilitation skills.
4. Demonstrated writing ability.
5. Demonstrated experience working with students and adults.
6. Knowledge of psychopharmacology.
7. Knowledge of assessment and intervention with suicidal/homicidal students.

8. Possess working knowledge of behavior management principles, including data
collection and analysis.
9. Possess working knowledge of community-based mental health services and
mental health providers within Clark County.
10. Possess a working knowledge of mental health diagnoses and potential
behavioral manifestations.
11. Must demonstrates knowledge of the theory and practice of mental health
assessment and treatment, and have basic research skills.
12. Effective verbal and written communications, collaborations, and interpersonal
skills to work with various groups such as other team members, school-based
intervention teams, hospital treatment teams, and families.
13. Ability to provide an array of services, including diagnostic assessments, mental
status examinations, treatment plans, and case management to a specialized
caseload of children, adolescents, and families.
14. Ability to diagnose, assess, and develops treatment plans for social-emotional
conditions.
15. Ability to demonstrate cultural competence.
16. Ability to demonstrate leadership abilities concerning planning, developing, and
implementing transition services and supports for students.
17. Ability to provide services and supports throughout the valley.
Position Requirements
Education and Training
1. An earned master-s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or
university by the Council on Social Work Education.
2. Have been approved by the Nevada State Board of Examiners for clinical
internship.
3. Intern for a minimum of 3,000 hours with at least 2,000 hours of supervised
postgraduate clinical social work in the area of psychotherapeutic methods and
techniques to individuals, families, and groups to help in the diagnosis and
treatment of mental and emotional conditions. (The remaining 1000 hours may
be indirect and completed in other areas of clinical social work.)
4. Engage in supervision for a minimum of one (1) hour every week.
NOTE: This position is an internship, and applicants must currently be in a Police
Services Social Worker (C8077) position to be eligible.

Licenses and Certifications
1. Must possess a current license as a social worker issued by the Nevada Board of
Examiners for Social Workers.
2. Must possess a K-12 Social Worker license issued by the Nevada Department of
Education (NDE).
3. Must maintain professional liability and premises liability insurance at all times.
4. A valid driver-s license that allows the applicant/employee to operate a motor
vehicle in Nevada legally. The license must be maintained for the duration of the
assignment.
Examinations
Must successfully complete by the date of hire: Additional law enforcement background
to include a truth verification exam.
