License and Certification Qualifications: Meets Georgia certification requirements for induction.

Education Qualifications: Bachelor"s degree or higher related to their field of expertise.

Experience Qualifications: Three years of professional, non-teaching work experience in a STEM field as defined above.

Skills Qualifications: In-depth knowledge related to their identified area of expertise. Successful candidates will have effective communication and collaboration skills, an eagerness to work with students and other teachers, and a curiosity for learning about teaching as a professional. Through the Residency, residents will develop knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and effective instructional practices. The candidate will be expected to develop the capacity to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities: STEM Residents primary responsibility is to collaborate with their mentor teacher and contribute positively to their host classrooms and school. This includes designing, developing, and teaching AKS-aligned lessons. The STEM Resident will contribute positively to an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

The Teacher Resident must perform these duties in collaboration with the mentor teacher of record unless specified otherwise.

Program & Certification Commitment.
1. Before the program:
a. Successfully complete the GCPS application and hiring progress, including a background check and fingerprinting.
2. During the program:
a. Complete the GACE Ethics for Teachers assessment.
b. Attend identified professional development sessions related to the STEM Residency.
c. Maintain a mutually agreed upon employment status with GCPS for three additional years after the completion of the STEM Residency.
d. Successfully complete the GACE content exam for your selected content area
e. Demonstrate acceptance into an educator preparation program (Teach Gwinnett, MAT, etc.)

Instructional Planning & Delivery (STEM Focus)
1. Demonstrate command of the STEM subject being taught
2. Develop and prioritize short- and long-term instructional objectives based on the district AKS curriculum.
3. Identify specific prerequisite skills and/or knowledge necessary for students to learn the AKS.
4. Analyze student work and assessments to determine instructional needs.
5. Prepare written lesson plans and plan appropriate assessment of student learning.
6. Select instructional materials and other resources that match the AKS, match the learner(s) needs, and reflect scientifically-based research on effective instruction.
7. Link lesson content to students" prior knowledge, background experience, and/or real-world application of STEM content.
8. Utilize scientifically researched effective instructional strategies, including providing collaborative learning opportunities and multiple opportunities for distributed guided practice.
9. Teach essential content-related vocabulary and teach skills for improving reading and writing proficiency/literacy across content areas.
10. Utilize technology effectively to plan, teach, and assess.
11. Utilize and teach inquiry-based problem-solving learning strategies with students in all content areas.

Assessment and Environment
1. Provide formative assessment that measures student progress toward AKS objectives.
2. Monitor students" progress and adjust instructional plans based on formative assessment results.
3. Provide summative assessment that measures student achievement of objectives.
4. Maintain assessment records and communicate assessment results to the student.
5. Organize the learning environment to maximize student time on task, including arranging the classroom and ensuring smooth transitions.
6. Maintain behavior that is conducive to learning, defining and communicating behavior expectations, and managing inappropriate behavior effectively.

Professionalism & Collaboration
1. Participate in professional growth and professional learning activities, applying new knowledge and skills to instruction.
2. Maintain professional responsibilities, including punctuality, regular attendance, and submitting records and reports accurately and promptly.
3. Demonstrate a willingness to share ideas, methods, and materials, and cooperate with staff.
4. Encourage positive school and home communications and ensure effective communication with all stakeholders.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
