Position: School Psychologist - Intern

Assigned to: Student Services Division

Location: to be determined

State Date: 2026-2027 School Year

Reports to: Principal/Director of Student Services

Compensation: Stipend $32,000 for the 2026-2027 school year

Work Year: 10 months

POSITION GOAL:

To promote the learning, behavior, and mental health of all students and uphold the district"s mission of providing equitable opportunities and access to high-quality educational experiences for each student. Through adherence to the NASP practice model, a school psychologist in Colonial School District will provide assessment, support, and intervention services to students; partner with families, teachers, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments; work with school administrators to improve school-wide policies; and collaborate with community providers to coordinate services for students.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

  1. Applicant must meet State of Delaware certification requirements for School Psychologist
  2. Proficient in technology, including use of Q-Interactive
  3. Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups
  4. Demonstrates understanding of and ability to perform job-related tasks
  5. Regular attendance is an essential function of the position
  6. Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Abuse Registry in the State of Delaware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities related to the District. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Prepares and submits required reports within designated timelines.
  2. Participates in interdisciplinary team and Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings.
  3. Develops FBAs/BIPs and assists in creation of IEPs for special education students.
  4. Participates in all relevant professional development activities.
  5. Promotes positive behavior and mental health.
  6. Provides direct support and interventions to students, consults with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals.
  7. Supports diverse student needs by appropriately planning individualized education programs for students with disabilities.
  8. Provides culturally responsive services to students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  9. Monitors individual student progress in academics and behavior through data collection and analysis.
  10. Takes leadership role in the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework within assigned building(s).
  11. Complies with Federal, State, and Local Regulations and Policies.
  12. Utilizes all available resources/materials (i.e. Employee Handbook, District website, Collaborative Agreement, Professional Code of Conduct, Administrative Procedures, school district board policies, etc.) to complete required paperwork, maintain professionalism, and to avoid potential violations/noncompliance.
  13. Keeps certificate current and active by monitoring statues, including clock hours, on the DEEDS website.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
