Westminster Public Schools seeks Special Education Teachers. Located just 15 minutes outside of downtown Denver, Westminster Public Schools is a culturally and ethnically diverse school district that offers a friendly work environment, a very competitive salary, and benefits. Teachers beginning salary starts at $65,299 per year. The beginning salary for teachers with an MA degree is $72,639 per year. Top-earning teachers may earn up to $100,000 per year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

*Possess a valid Colorado Teacher License with appropriate Special Education endorsement in the area you are teaching or obtain one prior to start.

*Candidates with endorsements in CLDE, Bilingual Ed, Foreign Language, and/or sheltered content or other English Language instructional training desired

*Has experience or desire working with students who span the full spectrum of disability categories (from mild to severe/profound)

*Obtained a valid CO license as Special Education Teacher (Generalist, Mild/Moderate, Affective Needs)

*Is knowledgeable and can apply research-based curriculum and intervention for students based on their needs

*Understands the IEP development and implementation process

*Demonstrates competency in student evaluation and assessment

*Has thorough understanding and application of curriculum modifications and accommodations in an inclusive environment

*Is willing to fulfill teaching responsibilities under a Competency-Based instructional model

*Demonstrates exceptional interpersonal relationships and professionalism with students, staff, parents and administrators

*Has experience and/or skills working with culturally diverse populations desired

*Has experience with inclusionary (e.g., push-in or co-teaching) teaching desired

*Holds high expectations for assigned students

*Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English

*Has strong computer and keyboard skills


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

*To display a thorough knowledge of the subject matter and the District's curriculum and Instructional Model

*To employ competency-based expectations for student growth and achievement

*To plan instruction consistent with the District's curriculum for assigned subject areas/grade levels and to adjust for student differences to meet their needs

*To assist student in gaining Access Skills and access to the general curriculum through Alternative Standards (Essential Elements)

*To use achievement and/or behavioral data to inform instructional or programmatic decisions

*To implement continuous system of evaluations and progress monitoring for students

*To write accurate and legally defensible Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for eligible students

*To facilitate IEP meetings and Initial/Triennial SPED Staffings for case-managed students

*To be part of an IEP team to make special education eligibility decisions as a result of focused, yet thorough assessment practices

*To serve as a collaborative and positive participant on the school's Interventionist team

*To establish an effective system for classroom discipline per Board Policy and building regulations

*To participate in state and locally required professional development

*To utilize assigned Paraprofessionals in an effective, results-based manner to support student needs

*To perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
