Role Description: The Special Education Instructional Paraprofessional supports the classroom teacher and students by helping to create a structured, engaging, and supportive learning environment. This role provides instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students with special needs in small group and classroom settings, supporting their academic, social, and functional growth.This is a classroom-based support role working with multiple students and is not assigned to one specific student. This role requires flexibility, engagement, and the ability to respond to varying student needs throughout the day.

Responsibilities:
* Provide instructional support to students in one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings.
* Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEP-aligned instruction and accommodations.
* Support students in completing assignments and participating in classroom activities.
* Adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
* Assist students with daily routines including bathroom use, lunch, playground, gym, and transportation to and from the bus, as needed.
* Implement teacher-directed and approved behavior management strategies.
* Use positive reinforcement to encourage appropriate behavior and student engagement.
* Promote student independence, participation, and skill development.
* Collaborate with teachers, therapists, counselors, and other staff to support student progress.
* Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and interventions.
* Maintain student safety at all times, including during transitions and emergency situations.
* Monitor student health and well-being, reporting concerns as appropriate.
* Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
* Provide general classroom support including preparation of materials, organization, and bulletin boards.
* Participate in departmental meetings and professional development.
* Follow all school policies related to safety, student care, attendance, infection control, and professional conduct.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
* High School Diploma or GED required.
* 30+ college credits or substitute teacher certification preferred.
* Must be able to successfully complete a New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Criminal History Background Check.
* Prior experience working with children required; experience with students with special needs preferred.
* Experience supporting individuals with behavioral needs in educational, residential, or clinical settings strongly preferred.
* Strong communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
* Patience, empathy, flexibility, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
* Ability to build positive working relationships and adapt to changing classroom needs.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30AM-3:30PM, 48-week contract
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
