The Role
At Meeting Street Schools, the Science Teacher fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a strong academic foundation through engaging, inquiry-based instruction. This role leads standards-aligned science learning for students in grades K–5 and provides early enrichment experiences for PK3–4 students. We are looking for someone passionate about the importance of science, both for sparking curiosity in young minds and for providing access to rigorous material. This person will be excited to take on the challenge of improving 4th-grade SC Ready Science outcomes as one major metric of their impact.
In addition to modeling a passion for scientific thinking, empowering all students to explore, question, and achieve, this teacher will integrate science with literacy and other content areas to deepen student understanding and promote meaningful learning across the school campus.
Core Responsibilities
Teach science to students in grades K–5 using standards-aligned curriculum and hands-on instructional strategies
Provide enrichment instruction for PK 3–4 students to build foundational science curiosity and vocabulary
Internalize and prepare curricular science materials for daily lessons, ensuring fidelity to scope and sequence
Manage classroom materials and maintain an organized inventory of science supplies used for instruction
Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned to South Carolina science standards
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including enrichment and intervention
Integrate cross-curricular connections, particularly between science and literacy, to deepen conceptual understanding
Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and adjust instruction accordingly
Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional coaches to ensure vertical alignment across grade bands
Participate in professional development focused on science content knowledge and best instructional practices
Communicate student progress regularly with families through conferences, reports, and ongoing updates
Support the school's broader academic mission by contributing to shared goals and campus culture

Educational Background & Work Experience
Active or in-process teaching certification preferred
A bachelor’s degree is required, with preference given to degrees in science-related fields
A minimum of two years of teaching experience
Strong instructional skills, demonstrated through proven academic outcomes as an academic teacher
The starting salary for the Science Teacher at Meeting Street Academy - Spartanburg is $57,500 and is commensurate with experience. Additionally, Meeting Street Schools offers a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to:
