TEACHER OF EMOTIONALLY DISABLED
STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE: Teacher of Emotionally Disabled
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned administrator, provide special educational setting and programs to enable
handicapped children to function successfully in the least restrictive environment
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Perform and coordinate necessary assessment required to determine student’s educational program.
Participate as a member of the IEP Team.
Develop and implement the individual education plan.
Provide individualized and small group instruction in all areas, as defined by students IEP.
Arrange with school administrator and regular classroom teacher for integration of pupils into regular classes
for instruction in areas where students can meet success; assumes monitoring of students’ progress in regular
class.
Hold conferences with parents of students
Review students’ progress in meeting behavioral objectives to determine if students have made adequate
progress at set intervals.
Attend workshops, staff meetings and in-services.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Child development.
Learning theory.
Behavior modifications.
Core curriculum.
Instructional materials and methods.
ABILITY TO:
Effectively communicate with staff, students, parents, community and school officials.
Communicate educational goals and objectives to parents.
Implement educational plans.
Organize instruction based on individual and group needs.
Assess and diagnose deficits and growth.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree.

Successful Special Education teaching experience is desirable.
LICENSE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California credential authorizing service to emotionally disturbed students.
EL authorization.
Must meet or be willing to participate in employer supported training/education necessary to meet highly
qualified teacher requirements for the assignment.
Pass an employer-paid pre-employment physical/drug screening.
Department of Justice clearance.
Unit Members shall be given appropriate training and will be required to coordinate and/or execute behavioral
intervention during the instructional day.
Employee must arrange their own transportation. If using their own vehicle in the course of employment must
have proof of insurance.

Classroom environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to read instructional materials, rules and policies and other printed matter.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.
Walking over rough and uneven terrain, play yards and school grounds.
Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling light-medium weighted objects.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
