FULL-YEAR PRESCHOOL TEACHER
STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE: Full-Year Preschool Teacher

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Master Teacher, provides center-based educational caregiving program for
preschoolers that meet the Performance Standards of early childhood programs and other appropriate
guidelines.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide individualized care to preschoolers.
Interpret family and child eligibility for federal and state programs.
Assist in recruiting eligible children.
Design and implement an individual educational program for each child, based upon assessed developmental
needs.
Integrate program areas into the daily program.
Prepare and maintain records and reports required for individual child, class, and program compliance.
Develop and maintain a plan for an initial and continuing relationship between caregiver and parents. Conduct
home visits.
Assist with content of material and conduct a monthly educational program that focuses upon Head Start
Performance Standards or other child development principles and that provides a response to parent requests.
Assist as requested in monthly center parent committee activities to review center activity progress and
direction.
Maintain required adult supervision in the classroom by involving parent and community volunteers in the
activities of the program and supervising their volunteer efforts.
Follow referral procedures in seeking assistance in meeting child and family needs.
Assist with transition from infant toddler setting to Head Start, other appropriate child care programs and to
kindergarten with needed records/follow-through.
Participate in training program of the agency.
Assist with program evaluation.
Substitute for the Master Teacher when necessary.
Other duties as required
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Child growth and development.
State funding terms and conditions and/or Head Start Program and Performance Standards.

Preparation of individual education plans, recordkeeping.
Quality infant/toddler, preschool age caregiving practices.
ABILITY TO:
Develop individual caregiving plan to meet assessed preschoolers needs.
Work effectively with all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions; maintain a self-management system including schedules
and daily logs.
Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Pass an employer-paid, pre-employment physical/drug screening.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field required.
Two years’ experience providing instruction to children in an early childhood setting is preferred.
3 units infant/toddler/development desired.
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certification.
California Child Development Teacher Permit or higher level permits.
Valid California Driver's License.
Be insurable and maintain insurability.
May be required to provide own transportation.

Drive a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Seeing to monitor students and read a variety of materials.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
Standing for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate specialized apparatus (e.g. latches, levers and switches on certain
devices like gates, cribs and playground equipment) and standard office and classroom equipment.
Pushing, pulling and lifting light-medium weighted object.

Frequently standing, walking and sitting.
