SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER, GRADES K-3


Terms of Employment: 10-month, Full-time Employee
Reports to: Principal
Salary: Current Approved Odyssey Charter School CBA Salary Scale

Qualification/Experience Required:

  • Must hold an active, valid Delaware License and Special Education Teacher Certification (K-12) in accordance with 14 Del. C. § 1531
  • Must demonstrate a firm knowledge of special education laws and requirements
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exams

Qualifications Desired But Not Required:

  • Certified in Elementary Education
  • Experience in an Elementary School classroom
  • Experience in creating and implementing IEPs
  • Data collection experience
  • Experience in the implementation of research-based math and reading interventions
  • Experience in accommodating and modifying curriculum

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively support a caseload of students receiving special education services offering access to the general education curricula through adaptations outlined in the student"s IEP.
  • Develop and support the implementation of an Individual Education Plans (IEP) based on state and federal regulations
  • Creates a safe and engaging classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
  • Collect and use data to monitor the progress of student"s goals
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to provide access to content standards and materials for a student receiving special education services
  • Effectively plan, organize, and implement instructional practices by collaborating with the general education
  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction using research-based best practices
  • Provide equitable access for students with disabilities through instructional and behavioral supports
  • Remain up to date with best practices for creating and implementing IEPs
  • Maintain an open line of communication with families about student progress regularly
  • Performs other duties as assigned
