LOCATION: Woodbridge Middle School

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a Science Teacher at WMS. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible teaching position.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Middle School Science Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and rigorous science instruction to students in grades 6–8. This educator fosters a love of science through hands-on experiments, inquiry-based learning, and interdisciplinary connections, while aligning instruction with state and national science standards. The teacher creates a safe and inclusive classroom environment that supports the academic and social-emotional development of diverse learners.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold or be eligible for teaching certification in Science for middle school, grades 6-8 in the State of Delaware
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of middle school science content
  • Ability to design and implement differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all learners
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Passion for teaching and dedication to student success
  • Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Science lessons aligned with state standards and school curriculum.
  • Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, Multilingual Language Learners (MLL), and students requiring additional academic support.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, including hands-on labs, project-based learning, multimedia tools, and technology integration to enhance student engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and school events.
  • Deliver targeted instruction to students with diverse learning needs, using evidence-based strategies tailored to individual abilities.
  • Adapt lesson plans and materials to accommodate the learning styles and needs of students, ensuring inclusivity and access to the general education curriculum.
  • Support the social and emotional growth of students through positive classroom management and the development of strong teacher-student relationships.
  • Maintain a well-organized classroom and ensure a structured environment that supports learning for all students.
  • Other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
