OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Grant Accountant will report to the Grants Accounting Manager. They will be the expert in charter school grants, will be responsible for preparing financial reports for grants, and will ensure that grant funding is fully spent within the restrictions set by the grantor. They will have a thorough knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit organizations and will train and advise school sites on financial accounting matters. The Senior Grant Accountant will develop tools, processes, and approaches to ensure that work is done in the most effective and efficient manner. The grant accounting team plays a key role in the organization. Their work is critical to informing decision-making, facilitating oversight and compliance, and training school-based staff. This is a role serving as part of Green Dot’s central office team, primarily based in Los Angeles.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
> Provide fiscal oversight and guidance in grant requirements (ex. Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV, Special Education, complex private grants, etc.)
> Gain a thorough working knowledge of all restricted support arrangements, including local, state, and federal grants, to ensure that all reporting requirements and other terms of the award agreements are met
> Support the Grants Accounting Manager in responding to inquiries related to the grants
> Determine classification and treatment of revenues and expenses related to the grants, and prepare journal entries to classify certain revenues and expenses as related to grants
> Coordinate and monitor compliance with the charters, federal, state, and other obligations as they relate to grants
> Coordinate and assist in development of budgets for grants and work closely with program managers to meet the budgets
> Ensure fiscal data is submitted in a timely manner to secure funding (upfront data input, and cash reports)
> Prepare expense reports and submit reimbursement claims for grants
> Coordinate the effort certification and collection process to ensure that effort certification responsibilities are met for grants
> Assist the grant accounting team in audits of private, district, federal, and state grants
> Contribute to the development of a strong finance & accounting department that reflects operational best practices
> Provide training and support to program managers and staff on grant accounting procedures and best practices
> Leverage technology for efficient grant tracking, reporting, and compliance management
> Work with program staff to develop realistic and accurate grant budgets, considering all relevant costs and potential revenue sources
> Other projects and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
As an ideal candidate you:

> have a minimum of 3 years (5 years preferred) of progressive professional work experience in accounting or a related field
> have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in accounting, business administration, or a related field
> are a CPA (preferred)
> have Workday experience (preferred)
> have knowledge of procedures and internal controls of GAAP
> have experience with non-profit audits, including federal, state, and local compliance
> have a high level of personal responsibility, a growth mindset, and an A+ work ethic
> are able to maintain positive relations with colleagues at all levels, including central office staff and school-site administrators and staff
> can simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining a firm grasp of individual project details
> are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor, and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
> will need to pass a TB test and background check at the time of offer

JOB REQUIREMENTS
>Breaks: Breaks are structured within the workday and must align with operational needs and student care requirements. Extended or frequent breaks may not be feasible in this setting.
>Work Hours: This position requires consistent attendance during scheduled hours, as flexibility is limited by classroom or operational requirements.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The starting salary range for this role is $82,000-$92,000. Please note that candidates who are new to their role or newly promoted can expect offers between the minimum and the mid-point of the range. To allow for salary progression over time, offers at the top of the range are rare. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.
