TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST
STANISLAUS COUNTY OFFICE OF EDUCATION

CLASS TITLE: Transportation Specialist
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Stanislaus SELPA Director, coordinate SELPA student transportation services
between districts, SELPA and the contracted transportation service provider. Maintain confidential record-
keeping related to transportation and student information.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Coordinate SELPA student transportation services between districts, SELPA and the contracted transportation
service provider.
Receive and process transportation request forms, emergency forms and data regarding Individual Education
Plans (IEP) related to student's transportation needs.
Coordinate school sites, bell times, start dates and minimum days between Districts and the contracted
transportation service provider.
Maintain confidential record-keeping related to special education students involving reporting data on
enrollment and related information in the Stanislaus County and SELPA.
Communicate with school site personnel, parents and Program Managers/Specialists to exchange information,
coordinate activities, and resolve issues or concerns.
Provide information and assistance to the SELPA Director, district administrators program managers and other
personnel gathering, tracking and reporting students requiring transportation services.
Instruct district personnel and program managers on the transportation procedures.
Prepare and mail parent bus reports to parents, school site and program managers.
Review incident reports regarding conduct of students while on the buses and make recommendations regarding
suspension of riding privileges for students with inappropriate and unsafe behavior.
Prepare mail and email notices to parents, program managers and District of Residence when the parents do not
have an adult available to receive their student from the bus.
Receive and approve After School Plans completed by parents and school site personnel/program managers.
Track incidents and notify the District of continued occurrences.
Maintain accurate data related to transportation and student information. Prepare and maintain transportation
class lists by program manager.
Compile monthly pupil count for students signed up for transportation services.
Prepare monthly billing for transportation services, general bus aides, one-to-one bus aides, solo buses and any
other unique transportation provided by the contracted service provider to the Districts.
Set priorities and establish work flow to meet critical timelines as mandated by the department, state or
transportation contract
Train bus drivers and bus aides on SELPA transportation policies and procedures.
Prepare and update all transportation forms and handbooks.
Attend meetings as assigned.

Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations related to transporting SELPA students.
Special Education and program policies and procedures related to transportation services.
Operation of a computer and assigned software.
Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy.
Oral and written communication skills.
Record-keeping techniques.
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
ABILITY TO:
Coordinate transportation services between the Districts and the transportation service provider.
Maintain accurate data related to transportation and student information.
Interpret, apply and explain rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
Operate a computer and standard office equipment.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Work independently with little direction.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Receive, enter and process request forms.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Prioritize and schedule work.
Determine appropriate actions within clearly defined guidelines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and three years experience in a transportation
services

Office environment.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
