Job Description: Utility Worker
General Description
Under supervision of the Superintendent, the school custodian/maintenance performs routine
cleaning work on assignments in the district; does assigned maintenance at district sites; minor
construction and repair on school buildings and grounds; performs a wide variety of skil ed
maintenance repairs; and performs other related work as required and assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assists al staff with maintenance and custodial.
2. Assists skil ed maintenance workers in projects by holding, lifting, positioning,
transporting and securing materials and equipment.
3. Maintains interior and exterior safety of al facilities during al seasons, such as removing
snow, ice, wildfire hazards, pest control.
4. Uses power and hand tools to do simpler tasks.
5. Performs general maintenance work on buildings, equipment, vehicles and furnishing.
6. Perform general custodial to al buildings, such as: sweep, scrub, and wipe al surfaces;
vacuum, refinish floors, clean light fixtures; shampoo, spot clean carpets; restock supplies
as needed; performs seasonal deep cleaning such as graffiti removal, cobwebbing, dust
removal, refinishing floors, decks, cleaning exterior wal s.
7. Groundskeeping work, such as: Operate a variety of light or heavy power and ground
equipment such as tractors, trucks, weed eaters, blowers, mowers, sweepers, power
pressure sprayers, chain saws and other equipment used in grounds maintenance work;
utilize standard gardening hand tools.
8. Perform and monitor routine pest control duties as needed and according to established
procedures.
9. Moves and hauls furniture, school equipment and maintenance supplies.
10. Lock and unlock doors and gates according to established procedures.
11. Operates and cleans equipment, appliances and tools used for custodial and
maintenance.
12. Assists with periodic inventories, inspections and preventative maintenance as assigned.
13. Reports unsafe conditions and needed repairs to supervisor.
14. Perform related maintenance, custodial, groundskeeping duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
1. High School Diploma or High School Equivalent Certificate
2. Experience in custodial and building/grounds maintenance work
3. Any combination equivalent to sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the
knowledge and abilities listed above.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and emails. Ability to
write simple correspondence. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating, and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports
and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and smal group
situations to co-workers.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in al units of measure, using whole numbers,
common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic or
specific written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables
in routine situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Fingerprint check and TB test must be successful y completed by the first day of service. Must
have a valid driver’s license, maintain insurability, and al ow access to have a DMV Pul notice
annual y. First Aid/CPR certificates must be acquired and renewed as required. Must
obtain/maintain any mandated certifications or training as needed.
Working Relationships
Ability to interact with students, parents, and other employees in an open, friendly, and
professional manner.
Technology
Basic skil s and knowledge of the tools of technology application as applied to student learning
and teacher productivity. Able to perform word processing tasks and work with spreadsheets
and graphics as wel as possess internet skil s. Ability to create Power Point presentations.
Ability to understand Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
