Position Overview

The Manager, High-Impact Tutoring is a school-embedded position that will support the implementation and expansion of school-based High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) in a district school. The Manager will coordinate with school leadership and tutoring providers, provide administrative support for tutoring programs, and work directly with students. Ultimately, the Manager will play a critical role in a school’s implementation of HIT – a pillar of the district’s strategy for learning acceleration among students furthest from opportunity.

This position has been designated asSafety Sensitive.Pursuant to section 410 of Chapter 4 of the D.C. Personnel Regulations; in addition to the general suitability screening, individuals applying for or occupying safety sensitive positions are subject to the following checks and tests: Criminal background check; Sex Offender Registry check; Pre-employment drug and alcohol test; Traffic record check (as applicable); Reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol test; and Post-accident or incident drug and alcohol test.

The Manager, High-Impact Tutoring will report to the Principal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties, and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Comprehensively manage and lead the successful implementation and expansion of school-based High-Impact Tutoring (HIT), including actively participating on relevant school teams

  • With school leadership and administrative staff, manages partnerships with school’s tutoring provider partners, and/or school staff providing tutoring.

  • Provide a limited amount of tutoring support to a subset of students to inform the development and refinement of school-wide tutoring strategy.

  • Develop and implement a strategy for student referral to and engagement with HIT, working with teachers, provider staff, and MTSS teams to identify students who would benefit from HIT, and supporting student participation in tutoring, including understanding and addressing barriers to access for individuals and within school systems

  • Lead data collection on HIT programming in the school, working with school-based and/or tutoring provider partner staff to maintain up-to-date HIT rosters, attendance data, and support plans for students referred to HIT. Support the strategic use of this data in school-wide MTSS systems and progress monitoring cycles, and lead progress monitoring cycles for students participating in HIT. Manage data reporting on HIT to school leaders, DCPS Central Office, and external partners.

  • Manage the administration of school-based HIT programming, including developing and maintaining a HIT schedule, and managing and coordinating space and materials for tutoring.

  • Lead continuous improvement and evaluation of HIT as school strategy for academic support and acceleration, including informing changes to HIT program design and implementation during the school year and for future school years.

  • Manage training for tutors to ensure alignment with school vision, policies, and instructional approach.

  • Develop and put into place systems and processes for school-based HIT strategy and implementation; share updates and insights with the DCPS Central Office team to inform HIT strategy and implementation district-wide.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Three to five years of related work experience in schools or community based organizations.

  • Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector a plus.
  • Classroom or tutoring experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing tools, systems, and processes to support the implementation of a program.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple workstreams and competing priorities
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, including proven experience in establishing trusting, collaborative working relationships with both external and internal stakeholders to achieve project success.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
